Why Afenifere endorsed Jonathan for second term — Adebanjo


A leader of the Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has said the group endorsed the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan based on its conviction that he would implement the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference if he wins. Adebanjo, told our correspondent on Friday, that the President had shown commitment to the call for the restructuring of the country by convening the conference.

Participate in debate, lawyers tell Buhari


Some constitutional lawyers have urged the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), to participate in the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria organised election debate. The APC presidential campaign had said in a statement on Thursday, signed by Mr. Garba Shehu, Director Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, in Abuja, that its candidates would stay away from the event because of the unhidden bias of the organisers of the programme against the corporate political interest of the APC.

PDP Cautions Tompolo, Dokubo, Others Over Inciting Statements



The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned some ex-militants including Government Ekpemupolo popularly called Tompolo, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF) Asari Dokubo as well as other party members and supporters against making inciting statements ahead of the general elections.

Mixed Feelings At Lagos PVC Collection Centres

Many Lagos residents on Saturday turned out Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection centres across the state for collection of their cards. Correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who visited some wards in the state report that the residents had different experiences at various centres.
In Surulere Local Government Area, NAN correspondents report that eligible voters seeking their PVCs were many at Enitan Primary School, Ijeshatedo.

Presidential Poll: How Jonathan Will Beat Buhari In North – PDP

Buhari was stoned in Lagos, Obanikoro insists


Musiliu Obanikoro, the immediate past Minister of State for Defence, on Saturday insisted that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress [APC], Muhammadu Buhari, was stoned in Lagos on Friday on his way to his party’s presidential rally at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Mr. Obanikoro had posted a comment on twitter on Friday condemning the purported stoning of Mr. Buhari, suggesting that the APC candidate was so attacked.

Maiduguri under fresh Boko Haram attack


Gunshots are sounding in Maiduguri Sunday morning as soldiers and Boko Haram terrorists engage in battle over the control of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
A soldier on the frontline told a PREMIUM TIMES reporter that the insurgents initially moved to invade Maiduguri town through a suburb community called Dalwa. 
“It is the Boko Haram terrorists we are battling with now as you can hear. They wanted to enter through Dalwa. But we are tackling them”.
